Tech news of the week (April 2- April 7)

These are the hottest tech news of the week.

Reliance Jio was in the headlines once again. The telco was asked by Trai to withdraw its 'Summer Surprise' offer. Announced late last week, the offer provided Reliance Jio Prime members complimentary services for three more months. The company's extension of deadline for availing Jio Prime membership to April 15, however, stays.

This week also saw the launch of Samsung's Galaxy C7 Pro smartphone in India. Priced at Rs 27,990, the smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box and has a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. It's backed by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and comes with a 3,300mAh battery.

Another smartphone to launch this week is the Moto G5, the younger sibling of Moto G5 Plus. Having a starting price Rs 11,999, the Moto G5 has a 5-inch Full HD display and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and is backed by 2,800mAh battery. It is also one of the cheapest smartphones to have Android 7.0 out-of-the-box.

Sony also announced its first major smartphone launch of the year -- Xperia XZs, in India this week. Priced at Rs 49,990, the dual-SIM Xperia XZs is powered by last year's Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone has a 5.2-inch Full HD TRILUMINOS IPS LCD display of 1080x1920 pixel resolution, along with X-Reality display tech and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Running Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, the smartphone has stereo speakers and a 2,900mAh battery. The Sony Xperia XZs is IP68-certified for water and dust-resistance and sports a metal body.

YouTube Go beta became available for download in India this week. The app allows users to save videos even in areas with poor connectivity, albeit in 'standard quality'. It also gives users control over how much data to be used while watching videos. Users can preview the videos before downloading them for offline viewing.

Last but not the least, Google finally launched its Play Music subscription service in India. It gives users unlimited access to 40 million local and international hits. Users can download songs for offline listening within the Google Play Music app. The service is available across multiple platforms including iOS, Android and Web. Interested users can sign up for a free trial. As an introductory offer, the company is giving Google Music subscription at Rs 89 per month to users who sign up in the first 45 days.
